CycleStation

Client Profile: CycleStation

Responsive Design

I was already a customer of CycleStation when I saw their request for Wed Design assistance in a local Facebook group.

I met with company director Alan Vass a few days later for a chat, to see if I could assist them to achieve their business strategy, and to see if we would work well together.

CycleStation already had a domain and website (Wix), and their email was tied into Gmail.

Their single page website was created by another freelance web designer who had moved on and was no longer assisting them.

The web designer had not left adequate advice on how they could maintain their own website, and the structure was not suitable to present their large stock of new and refurbished bikes and Ebikes.

After our meeting and gathering information about their current and future plans, I suggested a new approach moving away from Wix and Gmail to their own server to use WordPress and self hosted email.

The new site plan involved setting up facilities to allow CycleStation staff to mange their ever changing inventory of new and refurbished Bikes/Ebikes, a ‘blog’ section to promote their news, and pages to advertise their Bike Hire and Workshop. Email was to be migrated off Gmail onto their own server without losing any mail or access.

We agreed to move forward and after building the site they were delighted with the new design and facilities.

CycleStation Website

All pages are highly optimised with SEO facilities to ensure that Google and other search engines pick up and present CycleStation inventory and facilities without Cyclestation staff needing to understand how things work in the background.

The new website is a real success story, it’s easy to use for staff and customers alike, they are reaching customers all over the UK and selling their stock nationally for the first time.

I later added facilities for them to advertise their Accessories / Parts, and Children’s cycle training.

All pages on the new website load in less than 3 seconds – even though they are using a cheap shared hosting server (costs less than the Gmail / Wix combo used previously)
